The limit that matters is not 3,000 characters

LinkedIn lets you write 3,000 characters but shows barely a tenth of that in the feed. It collapses the post to a few lines and hides the rest behind «…see more».

Those opening lines are everything you have. They decide whether someone expands or scrolls past, and they are the only part the vast majority of people ever see.

Almost nobody checks them before publishing, because the LinkedIn editor never shows you where the cut lands. That is what this tool is for.

Where exactly it cuts

The cut depends on three things: whether it is read on mobile or desktop, whether the post carries an image or video, and how many line breaks you used.

Mobile shows less than desktop. With an image you see less than without, because the media takes vertical space. And line breaks consume the budget just like words: a post with several consecutive breaks gets cut after very little text, even if you only wrote three sentences.

That last case catches most people out. The one-sentence-per-line format that has become the LinkedIn norm burns through visible space fast.

A warning about precision
