What is linkedin hook?
Definition: The hook is a post's first line, the only part visible before LinkedIn collapses the text behind «see more». Its job is to make someone expand: if it fails, nobody reads the rest of the post however good it is.
The available space is smaller than people think. Desktop shows about five lines and mobile about three, and line breaks consume that budget just like words: a hook written one sentence per line gets cut sooner than the same text run together.
The patterns that work share one thing: they open something without closing it. A contrast between what you believed and what turned out to be true, a concrete number left unexplained, your own mistake with the lesson still withheld. What does not work is opening with context («after thinking it over a lot, I wanted to share…»), because it spends the line saying nothing.
A method note: it nearly always works better to write the whole post, find the strongest sentence and move it to the top, than to try drafting the hook first.
